Two keyboard keys not responding properly

Hey,

two keys (K, L) has chipped of the plastic clips on the bottom and buttons response is bad in the result. Apple authorized warranty service in my country said, they can only change the whole upper case. That sound odd to me as it's just a two keys which need to be replaced.

Also I can't afford to be up to 5 business days without the machine as the service told me.

Unfortunately, I can't find affordable keys to buy anywhere online.

Does anybody had similar problem?

Thanks for answers.

Was it only the key covers that suffered damage or was the key itself that was damaged?

The key cover should not affect its working. If you are saying the keys are not responding, then you have a faulty key. The key cover, hinge and under cap are mechanical parts; you can press on a key cap with your finger and it will respond.

Keyboards, be it laptop or any other kind of physical keyboard, are a single entire part that requires replacement in order to repair even if only an individual key. All keys are set on a circuit membrane that transmits the key pressing signal to the logic board that in turn translates it into machine code.

Apple products are by definition extremely hard to repair on your own, because of its design and several security features put in place in order to make harder for tampering to go unnoticed.

I understand it is a nuisance for you to be without a working machine for so long but as previously suggested, you can inquire if a temporary replacement can be loaned to you for the repair duration.

It's just a key cover. There are little clips, attaching key cover to the next key part which seems to be broken.

If that is the only problem with the key, its unreasonable such a long time to replace two covers.

Hi Zdeněk Brabec , IMO it is a difficult job to replace the only defective keys, so of course, the fastest way for apple support, is to replace the entire module. I believe your apple is still having warranty, i know you can't afford for it, check if they provide a loan set or etc, else you can hook on a bluetooth / external keyboard to use for a moment.
