LCD screen does not turn on anymore

There seems to be a loose contact somewhere (or s.th. worse), but after a while working only once in a while, the LCD screen now doesn't work anymore at all. I've tried every kind of twisting rotating etc to eventually get back some contact, but without any success. Now, if I am lucky that it is only a loose contact, maybe one could fix it when opening the whole thing. Hence my question if someone has ever opened this camera, as I'm a bit afraid of breaking it when I try to do so, not being able to put it back together again.

It sounds like a broken cable more than a loose cable. If you are not comfortable in taking delicate small objects apart, I would take it to a repair shop and let them fix it for you. Good Luck to you.

Hi, thanks for the hint. In fact I DID open it, and it was the switch attached to the "swing the screen" mechanism that somehow "got stuck" and didn't switch anymore. Just some manual work on the switch, and for now it works again :)

Unfortunatly, when I opened it, I was NOT able to dismantle the menu-turning-wheel on the backside, hence could not take off the back cover completely. If more complicated work would be necessary in the future, I'd have to work out how to take that off. Could not find any screw or anything, and didn't want to pull too hard... Any idea?

THanks,

Helge

Helge, good job:-) I am trying to find the service manual for your amera which should show you how to get that accomplished. I will let you know ASAP...

helge you could write this as a part of a repair manual... take some pictures of what you have done, write the description of how to do it... help other people with the same camera/fault?

Hi, good idea about "documenting" and writing this as part of a manual. However, as I haven't been able to properly take off the back cover (but only partially because of the "menu-wheel", gues it would not be too helpful, certainly not a recommended way of "trying to get to the inside" :) Next time I'll make photos though, but now I wont take it apart again unless necessary.

Try this, turn the camera to TV mode and set time to 15 seconds. Take a picture and after about 7 seconds open the battery cover to break contact from power, close the battery door and if the camera does not start up on its own turn it on. you may have to do this upto about 5 times or so before the screen will work but eventually it will. this fix is temporary and to make it permanent you need to take a couple of hundred photos, its worth a try
