How to be sure I need new backlights
Vizio E60C3
Have several dark bands on the screen. I see that the backlights for this tv come in 12 strips. My question is can I have half of one of the strip out when the other half is light?
All of the lower right half of the screen and a band adout 3" wide in the center of the left half are dark. Very noticeable on white screen. I still have a picture just very dark. The dark areas extend exactly halfway across the screen as if the backlight strips are half lite.
Update (07/29/2017)
Excuse my question but if the power supply were to fail wouldn't I loose all the lights?
Thanks

@alvan thanks for the image. Odd looking but I would go with failed backlight as well. Now you have to check if it is the lights or the power to the lights.....

That sounds exactly consistent with either a wiring problem (the wires leading to the LED strips) or a problem within the strips themselves. If the power supply got roasted, then it would have failed to power up any of the strips.
It's easy enough to test. Figure out what the power supply voltage is, then rig up the same voltage power supply (wall wart?) and try to power each strip one at a time.
Or... just unplug all of the strips except one from the TV and try powering up the TV that way. If that strip works fully, try doing the same thing with the next strip, then the next, until they're all tested / verified. If ONE strip fails to light completely when it's the only one powered up, and if wiggling the wires doesn't change anything, then the strip itself has failed. If wiggling the wires makes it flicker or work, then the wiring is the problem.
