What happened to my phone screen?

i have a few cracks on my screen but who doesn't. last night a piece of glass fell out of the screen, at first i was not worried but when i tried to fix it purple liquid appeared under the glass. i tried all night to remove the liquid but nothing worked so i went to sleep. this morning i looked at my phone and all of the screen is covered in purple and black liquid. i did not drop my phone in water or spill anything on it. later this week i am going to the verizon store but in the mean time can anyone help?
