Chips in lens glass

My G12 has developed small chips or scratches on the outside of the lens glass. The camera operates great, but now those chips are showing up on the pictures. Can this lens be replaced? The camera has never been dropped, and nothing has touched the lens, so it must be defect.

@albotrose yes you can. Check this video. Not an easy task and you could always consider replacing the complete lens assembly.

Looks like the G10/G11/G12 use the same lens setup. In that case this manual will help you with the tedious work on the lens. PowerShot-Optical-assembly.pdf
