Remove the larger insert that the k cup is installed into. I lifted it out gently with needle nose pliers it doesn't

Require any force. Then you will see a small pin sitting upward which pierces the regular pods. Swing this small gate outward and remove thereuseable cup. This rotates the itching mechanism forward releasing the cup.

If it is just a regular k-cup you should be able to remove the aluminum covering the top and grab it with a pair of pliers.
