SD990 IS Digital Elph short circuit

My old SD 990 has started doing strange things: First it started to smoke from the flash "bulb" when flash was activated. That stopped (flash still works, btw) but now there's a double electrical snap sound whenever a photo is taken, seems to come from the same area of the camera. Can this be fixed? By whom? I do not want to replace the camera because this combination of features doesn't seem to exist on other models.
