Getting poor sound from speakers and the audio jack is not working.

Hello, i've been completely ignoring my audio issue and using an external usb soundcard to fix my sound problem for a while but now i just felt like i had to fix this problem.

I haven't been getting any sound from my speakers at all besides a buzzing sound from time to time and the headphone jack wasn't working at all, so i replaced my internal speakers and the jack input thinking it would solve the problem but it didn't. Now i'm getting a really poor sound even at highest volume from my speakers and the macbook is still not recognizing the headphone that is plugged in and therefore no sound again.

I'm really frustrated about that because i searched all around the web for an answer and most peoples problems were solved by a simple replacement. My tech knowledge is also limited so i dont know what else could be causing this problem. I'm just hoping it's not a major one.

If you have replaced each part and still nothing is working, this sounds like a logic board issue.

But, before diving too deep into the Mac, try diagnosing it a bit further:

  • Head to System Preferences > Sound > Output. Does the option "Internal Speakers" appear? If so, the connection between the speakers and the logic board is faulty. This could be a simple ribbon cable issue, or it could be the logic board.
  • Try multiple different 3.5 mm AUX cables. Sometimes, some headphones will work while others do not. Plug in a set of headphones, and see if "External Headphones" appears where "Internal Speakers" used to be. Also, in a quiet place, listen to see if the headphones make a slight popping sound when connecting to the Mac. If so, your headphone probably are connected, but the logic board does not recognize it. If no popping sound is made, then there is no connection between the logic board and the headphone port.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!
