The cable will work fine. Issues you may have are you may only be able to secure the cable with one screw.

If the bracket that holds the hard drive in place hits the new cable, I break it and use just one end. After I put the new cable in, I generally put pads on either side of the cable where it comes over the top on the optical drive housing to prevent the bottom of the case from hitting it. In later models, Apple used rubber pads attached to the bottom cover to try to help prevent this.
