When I open the game it starts an error

I recently went digging through my house to find an old platinum game,

I had also recently purchased a 3DS too, i cleaned up the cartridge and fired it up on my 3DS But i got an error once i started the game saying, "An error has occurred. Hold down the power button to turn off the power. ect"

I have had this problem in the past with older Ds's but never figured what it was.
