I dont have a Game Boy Color, but what about the AA batteries?

Soon, i am getting a(n) Game Boy Color. But i am asking myself if i should recharge the AA batteries. Does the Game Boy Color receives damage by that? I got Matchbox: Emergency Patrol and readed the manual "Dont charge the batteries". Really i should not charge them? I dont want to waste my money on batteries...

They say this as the devices are made to be used with normal batteries and rechargeable's have a slightly higher amperage and voltage so the can theoretically damage a device but many years ago i had a GB colour and used it with rechargeable's and never had any issues. But I stress that it is at your own risk if you do use rechargeable's.

I used recharged batteries on my Wii controller, and nothing bad happened.

Also; I have GP 2700 rechargable batteries and i believe that a Game Boy Color would damage itself
