How to replace iPod battery after ripping battery cable?

I was repairing the LCD screen on my broken iPod and I accidentally ripped the thin cable that connected the battery to the logic board. I was thinking about replacing the battery but I do not know how to do it and if it will work since there is no guide on iFixit to replace an iPod touch 6th generation battery. I'm assuming I will need to buy a new battery and solder it back to the logic board, but is there another way to repair the battery?
