Device will not hold a charge.

Hi there! It's me again! So found a new problem. The device battery is not holding a charge. I will leave it on the charger to charge for hours so by the time I need to use it will be fully charged. Then when I try to use it, the battery level is already drained within 10-20 min. What could I do to resolve the problem or fix it all together?

I have had 3 Garmin GPS and my newest one has this same problem. I can update the firmware and  can fully charge it but once I disconnect the cord the battery goes right to low and shut off the device. Cord stays plugged in and the device works without a problem. My guess is it is a bad battery and you can only use it plugged in, great when I am using it in my car but sucks when I need it on my bike.

Yes my Garmin's as well as two other totally different brands also has the same problem. It will be plugged in and get a full charge and 10 to 20 mins later its completely dead and turns off. However when its plugged it it works wonderfully! Could it possibly be a setting that I turn on when I took it out the box and set it up the first time? Because it's been 3 diffrent GPS's and 3 diffrent brands. The odds of them all being the battery are very slim. What do you think? Should I take it to someone to take a look at it or troubleshoot? What do you recommend?

Hey again Lee! Sorry you're having such a tough time with your Garmin... If you're having trouble holding a charge it may be a problem with your cable adapter. Check the fuse in your cable adapter to make sure it is still functioning. If that is not the problem then it may be a problem with your battery. The battery will not hold a charge if it has been exposed to direct sunlight for too long or has been in a hot environment. You may consult the troubleshooting page here if you would like. I hope this answer was helpful! Good luck!

If the GPS indicates full charge, but then turns off 10 minutes into the drive- how is it a problem with the fuse in the cable adapter?

Is the real problem with the firmware or battery?

Hi Lee the problem is most likely the battery. Rechargeable battery’s have a number of recharge cycles and after that the time they hold a charge becomes less. Good news is that in some cases a replacement battery is available and depending your model is relatively easy to replace. If you want to tackle it yourself google a replacement battery and watch a video on replacing it. Good Luck Lee

Same here, unit only few months old and used few times and battery no longer holds a charge

How long does a home charge usually last for a Garmin Sat Nav

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

My Garmin has never held a charge and it came with a charger that plugs into the lighter in the car, no USB charger with that model.
