My iPad2 screen turns off

My iPad2 screen goes black as soon as I power it up and then it comes back on. As soon as I launch an app, I can use it for maybe a minute before it goes dark and then in 330 seconds it comes back on to me start screen. I just keeps going on and on. Am I out of luck?
