Looks like the entry level 13" isn't soldered

OWC noted the following points in its teardown.

– Bottom was more difficult to remove than previous generations, but it was not glued.

– Speaker module needs to be removed to pull SSD back.

– SSD had very strong tape covering the interface port.

– Laptop automatically turns on when you open it regardless of pressing power button.

If you review the OWC vid you'll also see the SSD module is very different from the older systems and it looks like a custom part! So, even if its removable, it will be a while before we see a 3rd party option.

Yes. But so far no one has made an SSD that is compatible with this model, the first few will begin to pop-up within the next few months.
