One external broken antenna

When I was setting up the device one of my antenna broke, Is it possible that the router works like that, or do I need to replace the antenna?

Hi,

Where exactly is it broken?

Has the connector port on the top of the router been broken or just the antenna itself?

If it is the port connector then there may possibly be more damage inside the unit.

If it is just the antenna that has broken and not the connector port, then it depends on which antenna has been affected. I think that there is 1 antenna for the 2.4GHz band and 2 antennae for the 5GHZ band, but I do not know which is which. You will most probably experience connection problems, drop outs, reduced range etc. It may be best to contact Linksys support to get information regarding which antenna has been affected and whether replacements are available. It looks like 2 of your antennas are for the 5 GHz operation and the other for standard 2.4 GHz. So depending of which one is broken the router should function normally. If this is a office setting with multiple floors and you are actually using the 5G quite a bit you may experience a smaller coverage area. The 5G will penetrate thicker walls but not go quite as far as the 2G .

Upgradeable antennas mean you may not have to buy a whole new box to get better Wi-Fi. The antennas should deliver a significant bump in horizontal range, but if you’re having difficulty reaching a wireless client (a smart TV, a streaming box, a laptop, or what have you) on a floor above or below the router, you’d be better off with a power-line range extender or stringing ethernet to a wired access point. If you need right help then connect linksys team by clicking http://www.linksysroutersupport247.com/
