Hi! I am assuming you have forgotten a Username and Password required to open the phone. If this is the case, you will need to reset the phone.
To reset the phone:
With the phone turned off, press and hold the Volume up and Power button for a few seconds until you see the reset interface.
Select Wipe data/Factory reset using the Volume buttons. Press the Home button to confirm.
Select Yes - Delete all user data and press Home button to confirm again.
Select Reboot system now, and then press the Home button.
The reset will now be complete.

Short answer is yes.
If you hard reset using the hardware keys (or factory restore from the Settings menu) then all your data and downloaded apps will be erased.
If you can still access into the phone, backup the phone to the cloud or a computer before performing a reset by using the phone’s backup feature (see Settings menu)
