My iPhone is not charging when the battery is completely drained

Question

iPhone 3G

Second generation of iPhone. Model A1241 / 8 or 16 GB capacity / black or white plastic back. Repair is more straightforward than the first iPhone. requires screwdrivers, prying, and suction tools.

My iPhone is not charging when the battery is completely drained

My iphone is not charging when the battery is completely drained and when I charge my battery externally then I can charge it with my iphone it drains quickly even with a new battery and new duck connector still the same thing

My reception is ok and I replaced the battery and the USB connection with a new one still the same thing is there anything else that might cause this problem.

The main problem is my iphone is not charging when my battery is completely drained. It’s OK for me if I charge it two or three times per day but when it’s off then that’s it I will not be able to charge.

If you've ruled out the obvious then you'll need to look at the motherboardfor anything shorting the circuits. I would really have thought it was a battery problem though

which iOS are you on? some have reported big drains on iOS 4, also if running apps in the background/enabled location services/push notices etc will drain.

my battery lasts about a day...my reception here is only GPRS and it takes all the energy, if I get 3G...wow, loads of battery

did you check the gold antenna prong on motherboard is in contact with bezel?

have you checked the usb lead for damage/dirt?

you may need to open iphone and just check the battery connections are making good contact and screw is in (next to don't remove sticker)

what's your reception like? if it isn't as good as it was you may not have good contact between little gold antenna on top of motherboard (next to don't remove sticker) and metal bezel. if this is not in contact then phone uses all it's energy to maintain connection hence battery drain
