the dvd drive on my clamshell ibook would not open. I used a paperclip to release it, but now the drive will not click and stay shut. the drive works, will play store bought dvds. Can this be repaired or does the drive need to be replaced

The opening mechanism may have stuck when you placed the paper clip in it forcing it to stay open. Try using the clip several times to see if you can get it to release.

Hi,
I am trying to fix a clamshell ibook that has the same problem (drive works but it does not stay shut).
In my case, I think the plastic "thing" (that used to close the tray) is broken.
Since spare parts are very (very! :-) ) difficult to find nowadays, does anybody know if I have to replace the whole drive or only the bezel?
I cannot make out where exactly the "click" that makes the drive stay shut should takes place.
