Kenmore elite mixer flashing blue light

I have a kenmore elite mixer, model 100.8900890a that does not turn on, just flashes a blue light. I opened up the top cover and dont see any obvious signs of damage. I took the switch out and sprayed some electric cleaner in it , when i plug the switch harness back into the main board, the mixer comes on but will not shut off unless i unplug the power. When i plug it back in, it will not turn on unless i remove the harness again and plug it back into the main board. Any ideas what to do next ? From what i can tell sears does not sell replacement parts for this mixer

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately, im past my warranty period, just my luck. It seems like others have had the same issue but i cant seem to find out what is exactly bad, component level wise. Unfortunately i cant buy the whole control board or new switch , thanks sears, but if somebody knows what commonly goes bad on these mixers, i can probably replace the def part.

This exactly how my mixer is acting. It is still in warranty but I do not have receipt. It is either 2 or 3 years old. I got it for my March Birthday. I do not know what to do.

Hi @esthersorenson ,

Do you have any other proof of payment document such as a credit card statement or bank account statement?

If the mixer was a gift, does the gift donor have the receipt? If so, I'm sure that they either let you have it to make the warranty claim or if the purchase was in their name (perhaps a credit card etc) they'll make the claim on your behalf. After all they thought enough of you to buy it in the first place for you. ;-)

Hey. Same issue here. How do you open the top cover please? This mixer is poorly designed and barely lasts warranty period just like all other Electrolux appliences I have. Time to open up have a look but if parts required throw out and forget Electrolux. Please advise how to open, it doesn't seem straight forward like other brands.

To open the mixer start from the switch. Pry off the outermost centre cap from the switch (does not look like a cap). Below there are 2 small screws. Remove those. Then the light assembly is moved (2 more screws) and the clear circular plastic illumination ring. Then 2 more screws are seen. Remove these. The silver frame of the switch is now off. Pry off the band that goes around the mixer. Its stuck on with 2 sided tape so a heat gun may assist. Then the 4 screws holding the top cover is revealed. The problem described initially is what I had and electrical spray on the internals of the rotating switch (potientiometer) solved it. I disassembled the switch down to a tiny board and a 4 wire jack. Only then I sprayed it. Hope it helps... no real guides out there for this model...

Hi,

The following seems to be the standard answer from Sears regarding any issue regarding the abnormal operation or non operation of the mixer i.e. won't start, runs slow, runs fast, beaters have no power etc

...the speed control plate or phase control board is likely defective or the speed control plate is out of adjustment.

As you state, there are no spare parts available for the mixer which may fix your mixer, the only parts listed (shown in this link) obviously have no bearing on your problem.

Here is a link to the User guide download for your mixer. In the guide it states that in the USA there is a 5 year warranty on the mixer. Check to see if your warranty period is still valid and if so make a warranty claim for a replacement.

It's the potentiometer! Just took mine apart. Electrical contact spray cleaner may help but im gonna order a new one from an electrical parts store. Start taking apart by peeling off speed dial cover. You will have to pry it off carefully.

Did you find the replacement potentiometer. I am looking for the same.

Any luck finding the potentiometer? I can't seem to find one

!&&* of a late answer but I found the potentiometer by looking for it in the similar model mixers AEG KM4000 and Electrolux EKM4000 series of mixers. It’s similar parts though the mixers are at different wattages, the potentiometer truly is the problem if yours does nothing but blink when turned on. You can find it by looking for knob button parts for those or similar models.

Hi Dick. Just wondering where you found the pot, and did it fix the problem? I started digging into mine, but I'm a bit scared to start prying things apart until I know for sure. I know you probably haven't even looked at this message board in forever, but here's to hoping...
