Why is my power adapter overheating?
The adapter gets so hot that it won't provide power to the tagital to charge the battery.

Hi,
If it is no longer under warranty, with the power removed, open the adapter and check for faulty capacitors.
This is what they may look like, or they may even be ruptured rather than just 'bulging'

Check the charge cord connection for any obstruction. If there is something blocking the connection clean it. If the tablet is having trouble charging, see the troubleshooting page for possible fixes. Otherwise, the adapter may need to be replaced.
