Blade will not engage

I have a 42" lawn tractor (Mod. #247.28901). I was mowing and heard a loud pop. The deck belt cover (metal) on one of the pulleys had broken. I replaced it, but now I can not get the blade to engage. When I move the lever forward, it pulls the pulley correctly to give tension, but it is too loose to engage. I have compared the belt to a brand new one, and it has not been stretched. I can't see any other damage to the deck or the pulleys. Can you suggest where to look, or what to do? Is there a sheer pin somewhere? Could something have been bent? The tractor will roll fine, but I have no blade movement.

Don't know the make or model but the first thing I would do is take the deck off and fully inspect the damage. Once the deck is off ,look under the mower while running and engage blade ( no blade ,deck is off !) if the pulley that drives the belt turns then you are fine w the drive part. If not a sheer pin is the case on the pulley drive shaft. My guess is one of the slave pulleys got a sheer pin or damaged so it won't turn. Other than making sure you are routing your belt correctly and right size , not much else there. I'd say you damaged a slave pulley or even the deck so the blade won't turn. Turn by hand to see if any problems after you get the deck out , you should get it from there.

Had the same exact problem.

Change your clutch cable that connects the lever to the deck in order to engage your blades. Fast, cheap, and positive fix.
