It sounds like your black ink has dried up, or the print head is clogged. You can try this to see if it revives the cartridge, if not you may have to buy a new cartridge. On the printer settings look for clean print head settings, run it and see if that removes the dried up ink. If not, pour some rubbing alcohol in a cup or bowl just deep enough to cover the bottom of the cartridge, where the ink comes out, DO NOT SUBMERGE THE INK CARTRIDGE. Let that sit in the alcohol for a few hours or overnight, in the morning dry the cartridge off carefully because if the dried ink has dissolved you can create a big mess quickly. Run the clean print head again and print a test page. If that fixes it you are all set, if not purchase a new HP branded cartridge, NO REFURBS. If the new cartridge doesn't fix it then you are either looking at replacing the print head or buying a new printer.
