Why does GPS never work?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900T for T-Mobile.

The only issue I have with it is that GPS almost or never works at all.

I have tried multiple ways to fix the GPS on it and so far nothing. I have not however tried to take it apart or do any kind of rooting to fix the problem, and I don't plan on doing that either.

When I use Maps, or any other "location-based services", the GPS is able to be turned on, and it acts like its trying to find my location, but its really not. I have sat for hours at a time for it to get my location, still nothing.

What could be wrong with it? I thought it might have to do with the GPS antenna having to be replaced, but I don't know how much that would cost since I bought my phone from a electronics dealer. And I would do it myself if I could find a way to do it without putting my phone in harms way.

I have no other issues with my phone, just this one. Can somebody tell me what the issue is?

Thanks, Ray

Hi Guys!

I've got the same issue but finally I solved it.

Recently i had downloaded an app called Untis mobile i removed it and that's it.

Everything is back to normal.

So look which app/apps recently you've got and then try removing one by one and check if GPS problem is solved or not.

Thanks, Amir Ali Khan

What worked? I followed the link, but YouTube has taken down kkovalski. Thank you for any time or information you can share!

Some one told me that SAMSUNG is not able to give accurate information regarding navigation, however I don't think so!

Any body knows about this problem?

As I have glaxy note 3, having great trouble to navigate, it doesn't show step by step guidelines, often times it shows 'Searching for GPS'.

Really fade up!!!

Having the same problem here. It continually says 'Searching for GPS'. It's worthless right now, and as I have a job that requires me to drive to different clients homes, I really need GPS. This is really pi**ing me off.

I just had great success by applying the tiniest little dab of conductive contact grease, purchased from https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MG9...

Be sure not to use the more common *dielectric* grease, which is for providing electrical insulation. That's the exact opposite of what you want here.

I put just a pinhead dab on each spring contact that touches a pad on the back cover. I did all of the contacts, not just the GPS contact (That's in the upper left corner, as you look at the back of the disassembled phone).

I've got essentially the whole 1 ounces of grease left. I wish I could easily get a small dollop to all the people who need it out there.

I'm wondering if your gps antennae has come undone. On the back of the logic board, after you've removed the 12 screws and pried off the back plastic cover, in the top right corner there's an orange tab that needs to be connected to a matching rectangle

I just did the process and it now works like never before! Its so accurate now! Thanks a lot, you really helped me through this!

For those that still have this problem, read this before you open up your phone. Go to the Settings>Application Manager then find Weather. Disable this and force stop. Then try using your GPS.

Does Disable Weather improve GPS? That's a strange one.

I have several Note 3s, and they all get like this. I think the problem is the antenna connector between the circuit board and the antenna that’s built into the rear cover. If I clean the contact, it works better for a while. I thought I had fixed it by putting conductive grease on the contact, but after really great results, it only lasted a week. I just tried prying the motherboard contact spring up a little bit, and I’m now getting a good GPS lock again. Darn that contact is right in the corner of the phone, where chassis flexing can easily mess with it!

You only need to take the back cover off to get to the contact, and those instructions are here:

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Rear Case Replacement

On the N900 US variants of the phone, the location of the GPS contact is in the upper right when looking from the front of the phone (or the inside of the removed back case). Antenna locations for N900 variants can be found here:

Antenna locations for international (9005) models seems a little different.

My Note 3 hasn’t had a GPS signal for a long time. As mentioned previously the problem was the contact to the back cover after pulling the 12 screws. I used contact cleaner and gently pulled up on the bent metal springs…works great now.

I also pulled up all the other springs in there and can now receive phone calls in the basement out in the country reliably.

There is something in the software screwing things up, try putting it in airplane mode, it will work.

We’ve had a few Note 3 users using the EatSleepRIDE Motorcycle GPS app tell us the GPS is not working properly. Fixes we tried that worked for some but not for all listed here. If you’ve seen improvement or damage as a result of adjusting the antenna, pls comment here! Thanks everyone.
