This is the first generation of Amazon Fire TV (model CL1130), released on April 2, 2014. It is a powerful media streaming and gaming device that allows the user to stream digital audio/video content to a high-definition television as well as play video games.

Hi,

I wonder if perhaps the closed captions on the video that doesn't show it, has been encoded in a format not supported by your Fire TV, but is by the program you use in your PC.

These quotes are taken for advice to developers wanting to work with Fire TV. (see ''https://developer.amazon.com/public/solu... )

Fire TV has limited platform-level closed captioning support at this time.

Amazon Fire TV includes limited platform fonts.

Maybe you should check if you have the latest software installed. It should be automatically updated, but here is a link to show you how. Scroll to the bottom of the page. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/...

Here is a link if 'updating' causes a problem.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/...

Perhaps the only way to prove it, is if you know someone who has the same model Fire TV with the same software version installed and see if it works on their Fire TV. If it fails when viewing the same video, it is a Fire TV, certain video CC encoding, compatibility problem, if it works it is your Fire TV.

Hopefully this may be of some help.

Doesn’t work for me neither

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

My problem with CC is with BritBox app. on Fire TV stick. Within the app one programme HAS CC but another DOESN’T!?! But on my phone app the programme (in BritBox) I WANT CC has it????

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

tried everything and CC will not always be on, did the settings but will not be permanent, what a mess

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@duabcar

Sometimes the individual program itself doesn't have captions, so you could have CC turned on but nothing shows e.g. on commercial TV I've had no CC during the program but the ad breaks have it.

Cc has been working fine for the last 5 months. Now it is ON, but only works for about a minute, then disappears. Tried restarting fire stick, tried re booting modem, tried uninstalling and reinstalling YouTubeTV STREAMING app. Nothing is helping. REALLY need CC. Hearing impaired.

I Just fixed this by going into setting, device, accessibility... then turning on closed captioning.

shouldnt have to do this IMO however once closed captioning was "allowed" in accessibility the subtitles reappeared once turned on during the video.

Hope this helps.

Ddog is correct, this solved it for me. Pretty weird you can set c.c within other apps like Netflix but not on Amazon's own video service, you have to change from actual device settings. Lame

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

This fix worked for me too. Still having the same trouble almost 2 years later...

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Ddog is right. Why the heck at Amazon thought disabling cc by default is a good idea?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

After trying all of the suggestions listed, I've turned on closed captioning multiple times on my Firestick 4k, but it doesn't stay on, definitely a bug.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

As a new subscriber, I’ve been trying for several days to get closed captions to come on, without success. I discovered a software update was available, and even after downloading and installing the latest version of fire stick TV 4K, closed captions still are not appearing, even after going into settings, accessibility, and turning the closed caption setting on. Very frustrating, to say the least.

Closed captioning issues on Amazon Fire TV can be caused by several factors, such as incorrect settings, outdated software, and compatibility issues with the video or streaming service being used. To resolve the issue, try the following steps:

  1. Check the closed captioning settings on your Amazon Fire TV device to ensure they are turned on and set to the correct language.
  2. Make sure your Amazon Fire TV software is up to date by going to "Settings" and then "Device" and checking for software updates.
  3. Try disabling and re-enabling closed captioning on your Amazon Fire TV device to see if this resolves the issue.
