Lenovo Thinkpad S440 Laptop not switching on at all.

Hi

I have a Lenovo S440 that I have had for 18 months. However today it will not power on. When I plug in the charger the led blinks 3 times to say it is charging and then when I push the power button the led lights up but nothing happens. You can not here the CPU fans or anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

Hey, I have the same problem, when I pushed the power button the led lights up but nothing else is happening. After 5s the power led turns off. Did you figured out a solution? Nothing of the answers below helped until now, hope you can help me:) and my name is also Alex:D

Hi,

Try the emergency reset procedure.

Here is a link to the user manual. Scroll to p101 in the manual, section headed "Computer stops responding" and follow the instructions.

Alex try hard reset. First remove the battery then unplug the laptop next hold the power button down for 60 seconds then replace the battery and power cord and start your computer. If this doesnt work remove the ram and leave it out of the machine for 5 minutes then reinstall. what we are trying to acomplish here is remove any static discharge that has built up in your computer. Hope this helps

No luck with either of these, any other suggestions.

if you have more than one stick of ram try only installing with one at a time try with one and then the other if it starts then your stick thats not in is bad if this doesnt work then I would crack it open and using a multi meter check the power coming into the computer to see where its not getting to

Thanks again for your help ,

There is only one slot for ram but i can try the multimeter thing tomorrow.

This worked for a Lenovo T480

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I had to take the RAM out for 5 minutes, disconnect the AC power and take the battery out. Then I pressed the power button for 1 minute. It finally worked.

What happens when we’ve done all these troubleshooting steps and have zero success? Anything else it could be? Or do I now have a very light boat anchor?
