Hi all!

I'm having difficulty determining what replacement glass I would need ... last four of serial is ...GG77 ... it's an early-2015 iMac 21.5" with broken screen glass. Works fine, is actually usable despite the crack across the screen. I don't think it's a Retina display. (I'm considering purchasing the iMac, but a lot depends on being able to replace the glass.)

Apple in its infinite wisdom and cost cutting measures has now fused the glass to the display. So it only comes as a complete unit. Here's how it's replaced: iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Display Replacement

Apple Part #661-00200

Reports have been posted of some that have separated the glass but none repaired successfully.

Most units available in the USA cost around $500. A China seller on eBay has it for $310 + $65 shipping. Warning, check the ratings on these sellers.

Are you sure about that part number? When I search it I find screens for the older, non-Retina 27" iMac.

For small cracks (as long as there’s no missing piece of glass), I used windshield repair kit for cars, and it made the crack almost invisible. Costs about 10 bucks.

And it worked for you?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

The crack is still kinda visible, but only from certain angle, and only when I'm looking up close.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Wow, that's clever! I'll try it on mine.

I'm really curious about the performance of the glass repair liquid. Is there still a chance to upload a photo? I have a chance to get a cracked screen for a very cheap price of 100 usd. Is it worth it ?

Buying a functional iMac 5K with broken glass right now for a cheap price.

Wondering if anybody has found a glass part anywhere ?

I have a 2011 27in laying around the house, has anybody tried using that one ? Maybe by cutting off the metal parts at the bottom, it could fit ?

Thanks for your help.

It can be done, I have done it, I can’t find the actual glass anywhere for purchase, heat and air suction vacuum is the answer.

Are you using it 'commando' or found glass part somewhere?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Where can the glass be ordered from ?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Hey, can you maybe outline your actions, in order to replicate that procedure? Thinking about doing the same. Did you just heated up the glass with a heat blower and peeled if off from the screen? Were there any remaining glue components on the display? Or was it something more sophisticated?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Please let us know more, I have a 27inch 5k 2017 imac i need to replace the glass on and dont feel like paying $600 for it
