will power on but will not start up windows
i can power it up but all i have is a black screen.

If you restart the computer, do you see the hp logo when you start it up?

no it does not it lights up but the screen stays black
1. Unplug charger
2. take battery out
3. keep power button pressed for 30secs
4. try turning it on with battery back on
if that does not work
plug to external monitor and see if there is any image. if there is no display at all we have a hardware problem and I can help you troubleshoot. If this is the issue was it dropped recently or worked on?
yes it only works on the external monitor
This sounds like the LCD needs to be replaced unless someone has been working on it I would check the connections. It is a very easy repair and part is inexpensive. Id say a repair shop would charge you $125-$150. If you need help replacing it let me know!
