rubberized coverings on body have become "sticky"

My original EOS Rebel whose rubberized coverings have become "sticky".

Its so bad that it if I try to use it - it sticks to my hands and leaves a black deposit when I let go. Also on my BGE1 battery grip.

Have you seen this problem and can it be repaired?

Canon told me to go away or buy a new rebel..

Thanks.

The quick fix is to sprinkle it with baby powder. For a more complete repair here is the guide:

Easy fix. Soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. It’s just a no slip coating over plastic. Alcohol takes it right off.
