How can I preserve the system without losing it?

I wish to change the hard drive in the Macbook Pro for one with a larger capacity. I have the entire system backed up on a time machine but I am not sure what the software related steps are once the new hardware is in. Can somebody help, please?

After installing the new hard drive, install a system on it using your system installation disk. During set-up it will take you to the migration page. Select the middle option for "Time Machine Backup". Then go take a nap or watch a movie and tell Time Machine do its thing ;-) I've done this many times and it works great.
