I have been trying to restore my Satellite C850-F211, but it doesnt seem to complete. Its like there are 47 steps to complete but its stuck on 27/47 and for more than 6hours, it displayed 'Setup is preparing your computer for first use'..https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0...

Hi,
First of all, remove the picture with the Windows product key!
Not a problem if you turn off and on the computer (restart) because this is the finale phase. The installation will continue from the last completed step.
It is likely, have a problem with the hard drive. If the problem persists, test the hard disk for bad sectors.
If there is problem with installation, you can start recovery process again like this - press and hold 0 (zero) key and then switch on the laptop, it will start with the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen or you can select HDD Recovery from the boot menu (F12).

Thank you, this has really helped me. I am yet to test my hard disk for bad sectors. I might end up having to replace it. How long is the life span of the harddisk? 3years..
And what are the best practices to prolong life of a HDD:
1.Does switching your laptop off when not in use one of them...i keep my laptop running sometimes for the whole week..
Hard disk is a mechanical part (the disk is spinning with 5400, 7200, 10000 rpm). This is the main reason for the problems.
My advice is not good practice but good choice. Some manufacturers provide more guarantee of its products.

Hello , my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C850. It shows me a black screen with a lot of info written there but the last two sentences are write PXE-MOF:Exiting PXE Rom. REBOOT and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key ._

Hello I have had the same problem it is to do with the hard drive so you need to go to a shop and they will repair it for you it cost me a total of £60-70

On a C850, you go Windows key/Restart,..hold the Shift key as you click restart & keep holding until you see the reset option screen
