MP3 works only for a small amount of time... then nothing.

My Creative Zen will play music and act as if everything is alright for a short amount of time before creating a strange static noise and going to a somewhat broken looking screen of vertical bars in various shades of gray. I found that it will start to play music again and act as it had before if I reset it but then after playing about half a song it does the same thing. Can this be fixed?
