Not sure where to place a wire on a variable switch

Block Image

Hi, I was repairing the power cord on my hair dryer and accidentally disconnected a wire from its variable switch. When I tried to reattach it to what looked like the most logical terminal and I turned it on, it blew up. Now I'm not sure where to put the wire, any suggestions? All advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

my bet is you shorted out the board, and if so you will need a new board, or frankly a new dryer. You may have inadvertently put a neutral and hot leg together. Anything turn black or smell like plastic burning? Do you have a meter to test for continuity?
