Will iPhone turn on with no display/home cables attached?

Hello,

Recently i've had to replace the lcd screen of the iPhone 5s.

Everything was working allright.. (the old screen was still working, just messed up colors) but now when i plug it in it displays black screen.

I have also tried plugging in the brand new screen and same issue.

Now i'm not sure whether it's screen issue. So i have few questions

1. How do i know if the iphone is turned on?

2. Will iPhone turn on with no display/digitzer/camera cables + home button attached?

What can be the issue? It was working fine before, but meanwhile (while i was waiting for the new screen) i had it powered on - with no screen and top attached. Which means it has lost it's entire power.

Ah now, i've managed somehow to turn the digitizer (the light of screen) on.. but i've tried restarting the phone and it's totally black again (no light).

Does anyone know how did i manage to do it? :-)

Hi Mark,

Short answer: yes, the iphone will turn on with as little as a battery and a board.

Are you making sure that the device is powered off during the repair? Have you tried unplugging the battery and restarting the device?

You may have shorted something out during the repair. Here’s a quick test for you: unplug the battery, plug the new screen assembly in, plug the battery back in and hook the device up to a lightning cable to charge. If you do not get an image or the backlight does not turn on, wait a few minutes to see if you can hear the audible notification the device makes when plugged in to charge. If you hear the chime, the phone is booting up at least. Your new screen may be defective if this is the case, or there could be some board-level issues at play. Hope this helps!

I have the same issue and have determined that the new screen was defective. Ordered from a different source and it will be here Monday. Wish me luck.

Hello plug phone into iTunes on laptop and see is it reconised leave it for 20 minutes incase the battery needs recharged as it won't reconise unless it boots up..

Disconnect battery and try screen again..
