chime, just white screen and loud fans

Hi

So I got this macbook from a freind, it was working fine until one day, there was the chime but just loud fans no apple logo or anything else, a PRAM reset is not possible I ve reset the smc a couple of times and tried all different combinations of RAM etc, I can t seem to find a description of this problem anywhere

thanks

Damien

Update

hi

thanks for your answer, I tried connecting a display and nothing happened, still the same thing, I ve considered it might be RAM slot death or a bad smc chip, and the unit doesn t have a hard drive in it but it never gets the folder with a question mark it just has a white screen and, also the caps lock light doesn t turn when its on, yet it clearly lets me reset the smc, so it is a very strange problem

Update

I figured out what it was

it turns out the wifi/isight cable was preventing startup for some reason with it disconnected it starts up just fine

And now you don't have WIFI anymore?

I have the same issue. I'm very curious whether you will able to fully repair the Mac

My 2009 white MacBook has the same issue. Pulling the wifi cable fixed boot. Fans are still loud, curiously. Luckily I used to work on these a lot so I have a replacement cable and NIC as well as a fan for it if it needs it.

Of course you've tried a Safe boot (shift boot), boot from command-R or diagnostic optical disk (depends on the OS you're running which to choose) booting from some other volume (install disk or a target booted Mac)

Connect to an external monitor. If you see a the same thing you have an on board video problem - many of these trace back to a bad/corrupt boot volume (OS) . A backup/wipe/reinstall of OS often solves those issues.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it accepted.
