Does the 2nd gen digitizer fits the 3th gen iPad Mini

The Question is simple, does the 2nd gen iPad mini digitizer fit the 3th gen iPad mini?

The connector seems to be the same in the teardown, the size is the same. So the only problem can be: Is the Touch-ID button is the same size as the old home-button?

Can anyone check this out? It would save a lot in repair cost to to the fact hat the digitizer are allready availible in good prices.

Steve

Are all the digitisers the same for the mini?

No, it doesn't work. The connector on the iPad Mini needs to be fully connected just to control the digitizer. On the iPad Mini 3, the digitizer and home button use the same connector.

The iPad mini 2 digitizer will not work on the iPad mini 3. The home button hole on the iPad mini 2 digitizer is smaller than that of the iPad mini 3 digitizer. If this wasn't an issue it would work just as good :-/

It will work you must remove the home button from the ipad mini 3 and install it on the ipad mini 2 digitizer

I'm about to attempt this myself. I wish someone already knew the answer. I'll let you know if it works!

I'm putting a white iPad mini 2 digitizer on an iPad mini 3

It's for a customer. God, I hope this works!

I don't think it will work. The older screens have some pads for the home button which go straight to the IC but the new one doesn't have these pads which means that the IC is different therefore the screens are not swappable as those older pins for the home button now only work for touch response and the home button (with touch Id) goes to the board.

I have completed this swap out of the home button and i worked without any trouble. Mini 2 screen and mini 3 home button. Just remove the mini 2 home button and desolder the mini 2 home button tape off contacts. Now install mini 3 home button in hole. Only trouble is hole is just a bit smaller. My customers feedback was it looks and works great.... best bet buy a mini 3 digitizer and transfer home button from old screen to new screen.

I tried it myself, and found out it didn't work, even broke the connector on the motherboard somehow...

Hi! does anybody tried to solder the IC part from broken 3rd gen digitizer to new 1st or 2nd gen digitizer?

crwdns2934105:0crwdne2934105:0

crwdns2889612:0crwdne2889612:0 0

crwdns2944067:02crwdne2944067:0:

To answer your question: Today I solder an IC part from an iPad mini 1/2, onto a iPad mini 3 glass. The digitizer worked. Upon inspection and removing of the shielding on the IC parts, they are both Identical. So the Chips are the same, but the glass is physically different.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

THX Man! Does the only different is in the size of home button hole?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

crwdns2934285:0crwdne2934285:0

could you use the mini 3 IC board on an mini 1/2 glass? take off the soldered home button from the 1/2 glass and just use the touch ID from the 3?

Or maybe do the same thing without swapping the IC boards. just use the mini 1/2 glass and carry over the touch ID from the mini 3 onto the mini 1/2 screen?

only reason i am asking is that the 1 and 2 used the same screen and the 2 and 3 are very close to being the same other than the touch ic and gold option. just seeing if maybe the screens could be just carried over.

crwdns2942205:01crwdne2942205:0:

From my understanding, the digitizer techonology in the parts are the same, just strictly the shape of the glass is different (the size of the home button hole). I did not try this yet, but my assumption would be that the glasses would work interchangebly across both devices (as far as a functionality is concerned), however you would run into complications that the home buttons won't fit. The TouchID is larger.

The motherboards are nearly identical to both devices. The iPad mini 3 includes a connector and ICs to control the touch ID, but also the mini 3 had the old chips that controlled the home button on the older mini removed. So that means even though the glass shares the same IC chip flex, it will not allow a mini 2 home button to work on a mini 3.

Essentially there won't be a way interchange the two parts. So no, you can't swap buttons between and change the glass.

Seems to be a lot to go thru for lack of function. unless there were a way to upgrade the 2-3 bio scan features its kinda pointless. That would be cool if possible though.
