Faulty Built-In LCD Screen Disconnection

The Built-In LCD Screen on my 17" Intel iMac is faulty and I am using an external display. Is it OK to just disconnect the internal display cables and leave the faulty panel in the iMac? Will the external display work OK. My logic here is the external display will work better if the internal display isn't using any hardware/software resources. Thanks for your time. rgds Al

The external display will work just fine. There won't really be a difference whether you disconnect the LCD data cable or not.
