Computer recognizes iPod, but Itunes doesn't

First, the iPod suddenly showed no music, but still showed that the memory was being used unchanged... Itunes wasn't working with the iPod, but still recognized it.

After recenting, memory used is back to zero and Itunes doesn't recognize, but computer still registers...

Any ideas how to fix?

It depends on your operating system... but format it using a utility you'd normally use to format a normal connected USB drive if you're system recognizes it. This will "corrupt" it.... iTunes will detect it's corrupted and prompt you to restore the firmware of the iPod... that might solve your problem.
