How do I get my computer to run more quickly?

I haven't had this computer that long but lately it has not been running as quickly as it should. When I open a new program like itunes or Mircosoft it takes at least 5 minutes for it to load. Is there something I can do to make it run faster? I already tried closing other programs first and running antivirus software.

I would recommend installing additional RAM. This is a relatively inexpensive way to speed up a slow computer and future-proof an already fast computer.

I think, you have not optimize your computer since long time. so in this situation you have to follow these options then your problem will be fixed.

1. Please uninstall all third party programs from your computer. that you are not using.

2. now you need to delete all temp files from your computer and reset your browsers on your computer .

3. now you need to clean disk and then you need to run an good antivirus. so if there will be any virus then it will remove it.

now you need to restart your computer and check it will start working fine. if it is not working fine, then you might have to expand your ram on your computer.

Try uninstalling any applications you dont need/use because a bogged down hard drive can cause performance issues, but its more likely you installed some not so friendly. Press control+alt+delete to bring up task manager and see how much of your cpu and ram is in used when your not running anything.

After bringing up Task Manager watch to see if there's any unusual CPU and Memory (RAM) usage. If there is and you can not explain it then run a virus scan and clean up tool.

Malware Bytes (tick the option for choosing "Search for Rootkits")

CCleaner (Clean unwanted stuff and clean up registry files)

Many of these answers are good, so I will sum up what most of them are trying to say.

1. An SSD will greatly improve system performance. By offloading information from the disk super fast, it improves overall system performance.

2. More RAM could help. 8GB is about all most will need. 16+ is for workstations and stuff like that. 4GB could use another 4GB stick.

3. Viruses. I don't know what anti-malware software you used, but for all I know it was malware in itself. Run a Windows defender full scan, and you really should get Malwarebytes.

4. Uninstall any programs you don't use. This can really help. Crowding your desktop may also do some light damage.

5. System reset. A system reset will always restore your PC to top working condition. It can really only go down from there.

Well, I hope this helps! If so, please hit the "this was helpful" button.

The things that slow a computer down are insufficient memory (4gb is OK for 32bit systems but not for 64 bit systems), hard drive fragmentation, hard drive is mostly full and applications that do not release resources.

Add as much RAM as your computer can use. Most computers have a max limit and any memory above max is not usable. Most of the time the number of slots available also limit memory, check with the manufacturer of the computer/system board for information on what memory is supported.

Hard drive fragmentation happens all the time, a document is edited and saved tends to get fragmented over time and the slow down happens when the hard drive has to hunt to connect all the fragments for an application. Run Defrag tool from system properties of the hard drive. Also check the amount of free space on the hard drive, when the drive gets over 90% full it will be harder to defragment the hard drive. Delete the trash, use the drive tool to help find things to remove. Archive files to an external drive or cloud service, remove unused applications.

One more thing that makes computer run slow is usually the browser. Each tab for a browser takes memory resources and having too many tabs will slow a computer a lot. Also opened applications that use a lot of resources should be closed until needed.

Try deleting/moving some files/apps/documents you don't need on your computer because it might probably just be because you've used up most of your RAM. You can also try updating your antivirus, expanding your RAM storage.

If all else fails just get your computer to be reformatted. Tip: Make sure you copy all important files and documents because EVERYTHING would be erased once you get it reformatted.
