PMU replacement, what does this entail?

My A1150 15" MB Pro is in the service shop with power problems. The battery charges fine, but the book can't switch from power adapter to battery , and as soon as the power adapter is disconnected, the book shuts down. They have told me that my power inverter board needs replacement and that my PMU needs replacement as well.

Are these two separate components?

If so, is the PMU a board or a fixture that can be popped out and swapped (i.e. without soldering)?

If so, where can I buy one, can't see any in IFixIt :(

Do these guys also clean spark plugs on diesel engines? The inverter has nothing to do with with the power system. The PMU is a microchip on the logic board. I've never heard of anyone replacing it. Here's how to reset it: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1431
