The drive shows up on my computer, I can access it, but when I try to pull it off it goes EXTREMELY slow and I get an error. I need help.

We need some context. What computer are you using? What operating system? Are you connecting the drive to the computer through USB, or FireWire? If it's USB, is it USB 1, 2 or 3? What (if any) error messages are you seeing?

I have the same issue. we have hung this drive off Quad core computers running Windows 7 and Windows 10, swapped cables, booted systems with it attached ... same problem. Suspect bad controller.

Try running a disk or file repair application on the drive. Also try using a different system and cable, to make sure its not your computers port and the cable its self is good.

I managed to get data off by using TestDisk on Ubuntu because it was actually recognizing the drive, but let me tell you, because the WD My Passport HD had some problems, it took a LONG time. I ended up just getting off the files that were irreplaceable like pictures and stuff.

Assuming the disk has actually failed - that is, it isn't restorable with normal system utilities such as Disk Utility, Check Disk, Disk Warrior, DriveGenius, TechTool Pro etc. - Drive Savers in California is the one with the longest track record. It's expensive, so I wouldn't go that way if the disk isn't showing signs of physical failure, like clicking sounds or failure to spin up. I'm a Drive Savers reseller; click on my user name, and it will show my reseller code, which will get you a discount and a longer warranty.
