Revamped version of the iPhone 3G with faster processing speeds. Repair of this device is similar to the 3G, and requires simple screwdrivers and prying tools. Model A1303 / 8, 16 or 32 GB capacity / black or white plastic back.

Battery swollen and screen popped out

So the iPhone expanded and screen popped out. I have disassembled and the battery is like a balloon! The main board got distorted too

Wondering if I should bother with a new battery or bin this phone...

OK so for around $10 off that well known auction site I got a new battery and it is in and running again.

personally i would bin the phone, but if its got sentimental value, it may just need a new battery, if the board isnt bent too much

For the sake of a few bucks I may as well give it a go since I have already disassembled it....

I have the same problem.

How did you manage to get to the battery at all?

The iFixit guide for the battery replacement doesn‘t work for me because in my case the swollen battery just popped out the glass front. The black bezel (where the home button sits in, for example) is still sitting very tight inside the siver frame.

Should/can I safely bend the glass screen over to remove it to be able to grab the black frame/bezel?

Or should I somehow (but how?) try to bend open the black frame *with* the glass. However, applying the suction cup is not an option anymore.
