Why are these HDD connectors not the same?

Here is the computer connector and the hard drive. Why are they different?

Your Toshiba unit uses a PATA interface for it's hard drive. Sadly, the drive you have here is a SATA based hard drive which is a newer standard.

These drives are not interchangeable as you have discovered these use very different connectors.
