You can reset Mac OS X (Taken that you are running OS X) this will delete all user accounts and passwords, but keep the data intact. Boot into single user mode (Hold "Command[Apple]" + "S" upon chime)

Type the following commands:

fsck -y

mount -uw

rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

this will reset mac os x, and yopu will need to reboot to see the effects.

I just did it yesterday. Can confirm it works. However, you will lose your keychain but at least your files are back

EDIT: It only allows you to create a new admin account but your old one is still there. Use the new admin to change the old account's password. Your keychain will still be lost.

My clamshell iBook boots perfectly. Yet, each time I use the command + s, it boots to the login password and to the previous owner's acct. I cannot get to the terminal. I have no disks and the owner is no longer alive. Any suggestions, please.
