click wheel problems - reset works

I know this is almost a common problem

the click wheel accept the reset combination - but freezes after that. it also accepts any touch after the nano went to sleep - but only to wake up.

many tried to change the click wheel - but the new one won't work either.

has anybody a hint what could be a possible solution for that matter ?

first of all - i wasn't able to "repair" it

but i've got another nano (a total mess, battery was almost dead and the device was sometimes used as a bottle opener), i disassembled both nanos, used the logicboard from the bottle opener and the battery, lcd and the housing from my nano and reassembled it, now i have a working blue 4th gen nano ;-)

I feel your pain. I bought some broken iPods and am trying to figure this one out as well. What I have discovered is that when I move the flex ribbon of the click wheel a certain way while it is connected to the mother board, the click wheel works. It has something to do with the connection, although I can't say this is the same problem everyone is having. What I do know is that it's not a software issue. I have restored after restored after restored and even zero'd out the data with disk utility and then restored again with itunes. Unless I need to downgrade the firmware, which I really don't think will help.

I can't tell if there was liquid damage, but nothing indicates this on my iPod. All I know is that I was able to use the iPod properly when the ribbon was forced a certain angle....and then it glitched out and kept restarting and now I can't get it to do anything. Figures.

in my case downgrading doesn't help.

i will try the cable thing, some said thar a scotch tape works - i didn't wan't a sticky click wheel - so i tried it with some foil - didn't work either.

one thing about the software - i have a nano 1g with massive graphics problems - but only when i use the original firmware - the nano is with his original firmware not usable at all, resored it a few times, still the same problems - i installed rockbox and the thing works great - there are parts in the firmware that none of us could reach with a restore - i think that this is a hardware issue
