NVIDIA GeForce GT130 1GB MXM replacement

Hi I have an iMac 24 inch A1225 early 2009 model with 3.0ghz processor and a faulty NVIDIA GeForce GT130 512MB MXM graphics card. I though of replacing the graphics card and upgrading it to a 1GB instead and found out cheaper replacement for Acer Laptops. Just wondering if anyone have tried this or whether this is going to work?

You can only use a VGU that Apple installed on this logic board. You will have EFI, and OS (driver) problems if you don't.

Hi mac, does this mean that even it is the same VGU / GPU and card type, it will not work as they have different firmware? and will cause EFI/driver problems? My iMac original card is NVIDIA GeForce GT130 512MB, and the one I found for Acer laptop is the same but with higher memory NVIDIA GeForce GT130 1GB.

Hey guys, i replace the card with a Dell G92-751-B1 M17X/M15X Nvidia GTX 260M 1GB MXM 3.0 and it works fine but gamma is too high (it is like take a look to the sun without sunglasses). I tried to low it with same programs but I cannot lower to to an acceptable level (fn f1 and fn f2 keys dont work). I install windows 7 on bootcamp and cannot install any nvidia drivers, always computer tell me that cannot install the specific driver. In mac the System Information card model correctly listed (gtx 260m). Any idea?

The issue you are facing is the cards firmware. You'll need to update it with the correct version for your system.

Any quick guide or any web to update the firmware?

Not much in the Mac space. Most people clone a good image from a working card (one for a Mac). In the Windows world you can use NVIDEA's tools.

you will need to chech rom to see if it has enough room for the apple EFi in order to run in osx, you can run it in PC mode as long as you set it up before you insert the card, switch on straight to PC rather than boting into OSX

Sadly, you're stuck to what Apple has used in their systems as you also need the device driver in the OS.

and enyone has checked any other graphic card on early 2009 imac ?

I have a problem with my GPU. My iMac is 24” early 2009 C2D 3,06 GHz, 8GB 1066 MHz RAM, 250GB SSD Samsung EVO860 and Nvidia GT 130 512 RAM. I’m also wondering is it possible to install GT 130 1GB RAM card dedicated for Acer.
