Repair guides, troubleshooting information, and service help for refrigerators manufactured by General Electric (GE).

Temperature Problems (will not cool)

I have a GE Profile refrigerator (model PSS26MSWASS) side by side refrigerator. It does not want to cool down.

I have broken it down and found that the evaporator motor was not starting. If I start in manually with my finger it will run. If I unplug it and plug it back it back in it is the same, only runs if I start it manually.

Does this mean that the fan motor is bad?

Update

Thank you again Old Turkey.

I changed the motor and it seems to be working fine now.

Rich Fahey, if by "start in manually with my finger it will run." that it will run when you start spinning it, then yes, your motor could be. It is possible that the start winding on your motor have failed (most likely), but this can also be caused by a bad start capacitor. Safest bet of course would be to replace the fan motor. The replacement part number for your fan is WR60X10185. Hope this helps, good luck.
