walterfrancis, at minimum you will have to replace the battery and the hard drive. Those two things do not like water at all. Disassemble your iPod using this guide. Clean the logic board with isopropyl alcohol (+90%) and check for missing/burned components. After you cleaned is properly, replace the battery. you can check your hard drive by using a Zif-to-USB adapter and see if it does still function. Most likely you will have to replace it. After that, reassemble and re-evaluate. Right now it is strictly academics since we do not know what the inside looks like. Even if you would buy the parts and pieces of, lets say ebay etc. it can still be cheaper than a replacement iPod. Weigh the pros and cons of this based on your finances and your skills. Hope this helps, good luck.
I outlined the areas that look like definite corrosion. Submerge the board in isopropyl alcohol and clean with a soft brush. It may take a few attempts to get it cleaned. The bottom area is the one that controls your dock connector etc. So make sure you clean that really well, including the connector. It does not look to bad:-) At least your battery connector still seems to be intact. That part has issues off its own :-) Just because you do not consider yourself a "Techie" does not mean you can't fix it. toughest part is already done, you got it apart ;-)
