Limits on hard drive replacement capacity 128 gb

I have old 80 gb HD. I want to repalce with larger capacity ATA HD. I would like as much as possible 320gb Western. but I read some disclaimer that some older PowerBooks will only recognize up to 128 gb with out other commercial software? Can I partition the new HD to get around this limit? What is the other commercial software?

You can partition the drive into multiple partitions < 128GB, and it should work fine.

You'll have to do the partitioning on a newer machine and then install it in the older machine.
