First-generation Apple iPad with Wi-Fi, available with 16, 32, or 64 GB. Model Number A1219. Repairs are straightforward and do not require heat.

broken volume control cable

My ipad was dropped and the digitizer smashed around the top right. The screen was working so I removed the digitzer to replace it. Upon removal I saw that the wire to the volume control was broken. The screen now has a 1.5 inch band at the top with no image showing. Are the two things related? Is the screen now toast? Can the volume control cable be replaced? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi joseph,

I don't know if the two issues are related.

Based on the teardown (step 11), both cables are very close to one another and on the same board. You might want to check if the display cable is still 100% attached/connected on both ends. Based on the dead area of the LCD, it could be that the connection got loose on one side.

In regard to the volume button, I would try to solder back the one wire that is broken. Or, if this is not possible, you might want to buy a replacement unit like this.

Steffen
